I go to movies to learn, to grow, sometime to grieve, to find hope, but more often that not, I go looking for the lesson and a meaning.
There’s a moment in Unbreakable where Elijah talks about comic books as a form of history — ancient truths passed down, exaggerated and transformed over time.
Movies are no different. Whether consciously or not, filmmakers pour those things into what they create. A story becomes more than a story; it carries something of the people who made it. And then we bring ourselves to it, our own history, our own losses, loves, fears and questions. Which means the same movie can reveal something entirely different to each of us.
The films below did that for me. Each left behind a particular thought, truth or lesson that became part of how I see the world. You might watch the very same movie and take something completely different from it — and that’s the beauty of movies!
So have a look at what these films revealed to me; and if one reveals something entirely different to you, I want to hear it.
Moviepedia is always growing!
I'm always adding new films, feelings, meanings and discoveries — because there will always be another great movie worth finding.
Did a film make you feel something I haven't captured? Is there a line you've never forgotten? A meaning you took from it that I completely missed? Or a film you simply cannot believe isn't on the list? Then tell me.
Moviepedia may be my list, but movies belong to all of us.
